My New Free Shoes

This adorable pair of leather shoes cost me nothing.  They sell for around $90 plus shipping (from the company I won them from), and I got them for free (I didn’t even pay for the UPS shipping!) .  I had been desperately needing a pair of warm shoes for winter.  I was really hoping for some cute little retro-looking boots.  But who has that much money laying around?  My wonderful husband entered a shoe giveaway contest and won these for me!  I am so, so happy with them.  They fit me perfectly, they are very comfortable, and they even go well with my thick winter socks:
I am very thankful for these new shoes, and for a husband who enters contests despite the fact that I always say to him, “But no one ever wins!”

  1. Rowan,
Thank you very much! I'm like you, I often don't take the time to enter contests. I'm trying to make myself do it more, though. 🙂

    Mara Wildflower,
Thank you! It was such a blessing. I'm still smiling over the fact that they were free and that I like them so much. Yes, it's a skirt that I was wearing. I wore it to church today, too (without the petticoat). 🙂

    Karen,
    Thanks! Hope you win some!

    Sarah,
    Thank you! 🙂

  2. I really adore your new shoes! What a blessing that your husband was able to win them!

I'll also agree with Josette. Your petticoat adds such a nice touch to your autumn skirt (or is that a dress?) 🙂

  3. I really like your shoes, they will keep your feet nice and warm and dry all through the winter. They look perfect with your skirt and petticoat. My DIL in South Africa enters and wins a lot of competitions and I've always meant to try but never quite got round to it.

  4. Thank you so much for all the fun comments! I enjoyed reading each one. Hope you all win some shoes!

    Elisa,
Your comment made me laugh, as my mom once entered a drawing at a grocery store for a Jeep. I said, "You'll never win that," and she did! I guess I should just keep my mouth shut! :O

    Maria,
The skirt is an Old Navy rayon blend. It just has a wool look to it. So happy your daughter is home!!! Praying for quick recovery. 🙂

    Sandy,
Welcome, and thanks for the follow! I can't wait to check out your blog, also!

    Mary,
Well, I must have a pretty good eye…I took them myself! A few children and a dog "helped," but I just set the camera on my tripod and set the timer and then stepped into the picture! Thanks for the compliment! 🙂

  5. Oh Joy…they are wonderful! What a blessing 🙂

Like you, I wear petticoats all the time with my long skirts…they add such a beautiful look to all my skirts 🙂

    Is the skirt wool?

by the way…thank you Joy for your prayers and your words of encouragement during this time – they kept me going my friend!

    Maria

  6. What wonderful shoes! You will have toasty warm toes this winter, yay! I love the skirt and petty coat too. I have to ask…who takes these wonderful pics of you. Who ever it is has a wonderful eye for picture taking.

    Blessings and ((HUGS))
    -Mary

  7. Hello Joy,
I just became your newest follower I love your blog! So fresh and homey.
And you have already answered my questions too.
I loved the lace trimmed slip and your dark blue skirt and the shoes. Lots of and's there I know.
That is why I hung around and decided to join your blog and follow.
I was wondering where you got those items from.
What a great treasure to find.
Lately we do a lot of thrift store splurging. We love it. It is almost a sport.
I entered the give away for the shoes. Thank you for the link.
If and I mean If I win I will be giving them to my girls. I just designed Vintage skirts (as a momma of to 6 I sew all my girls clothes when I can) and now they are selling for women too.

I would like for you to visit my blog when you have time.

  8. Thanks for sharing this one, Joy…I entered, too! I love your boots…I used to have a pair like that from LL Bean. I wore them with my 1890's costume on the living history farm where my boys and I used to volunteer. I wore those boots til they broke, literally! Would love to have another pair 🙂

    Great photos…love it!
Blessings, and have a blessed Thanksgiving!

  9. Having something fun on your feet puts a little bounce in your step…even better when that "fun" comes free! Love the whole look…shoes, petti, and skirt!! Yay for your hubby!

  10. Quiet Homemaker,
    Thank you!

    Jacinda,
Thanks! You know, the only giveaway I've ever won was one I didn't know I entered! I'm thinking someone else must have entered my name for me or something. But yes, I love it when my husband wins things! He and my mom and mother-in-law have won some really neat things. Maybe I should keep trying. 🙂

    Kelly,
    Thank you!

  11. Hi Babychaser,

I'm so glad you stopped by to visit! Hope you win some shoes. 🙂

Well, the slip/petticoat I found at a thrift store about 10 years ago for 50 cents. There were two of them, a white one and an off-white one, so I got them both. 50 cents!! They're a nice thin cotton fabric with cotton lace trim. They look and feel very "heirloom."

The skirt I found at an end-of-season consignment store sale last year for a few dollars. It's Old Navy and a rayon blend. Wool would be nice, though!

Hope to see you again! 🙂

  12. The shoes are awesome… I entered! I want some. I had a pair of cheap cute boot things, but they died a couple years ago. Now there is nothing good for winter.

But enough about the shoes… lets talk about that slip!!! Please. I have to know all about it. I love it! And maybe about the skirt. Wool? Did you make it? Buy it? It looks cozy! Please… tell all.

I've never been here before, but I'll be looking around. Maybe during nap time. 🙂

    It'll be my "break".
