Spring is my favorite season, for so many reasons! I love the anticipation of everything new and fresh. I love all the blooming things and the reappearance of green!

While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease. —Genesis 8:22

And I also love that one of my favorite holidays (Easter) occurs in the springtime.

Today I’m going to share some of my favorite ideas for welcoming spring into your home.

1. Update Your Daily Routine

One of my favorite things to do at the start of each season is to update our daily routine. Usually, spring is when I have more energy, so add in some time outside and time to tackle homemaking projects.

I also usually like to start my daily walks again, once the weather is warmer. I always have good intentions of walking no matter what the weather is like, but I usually can’t make myself do it until spring!

This is a good time to check and make sure your routines are still serving you well. If not, consider updating them.

Revisit your morning routine, evening routine, and your daily homemaking and cleaning routine and update them if needed.

2. Do Some Decluttering

Something about spring always inspires me to clean and declutter every room in the house.
I like to use this decluttering challenge to fill thirty bags in thirty days. It’s a fun way to challenge myself to get rid of things!
If you need some decluttering inspiration, these are some of my favorite books on decluttering.

3. Plan a Spring Cleaning Week

You don’t have to spend a whole week on spring cleaning, but spreading it out throughout a whole week can make it feel less overwhelming.

Here’s my free spring cleaning checklist to help you get started!

4. Add Some Greenery

Nothing says spring like the color green! I love to have houseplants growing all year long, but especially in the spring.

But if you don’t enjoy caring for live houseplants, there’s nothing wrong with using artificial greenery!

I have a few little pots of faux greenery that I like to tuck in here and there, on shelves or cabinets.

These faux branches are so adorable tucked into a vase or pitcher.

I also love the look of this thyme topiary. It looks so realistic!

5. Bring in Some Flowers

If flowers are blooming in your area, it’s a great idea to bring some inside!

We have daffodils, redbud trees, apple trees, and a few other things that bloom in early spring. Later in the spring the lilacs and other perennials appear.

But until the real flowers emerge from their winter slumber, I’m not above using artificial flowers!

Last year I purchased these artificial tulips, and I think they looked very lifelike. I’m bringing them out again this spring.

These artificial hydrangea flowers are also pretty.

All of these (artificial or real) flowers look so lovely placed in baskets, vases, or white pitchers (I have this one). There are so many ways to decorate with them for spring.

6. Buy Some Fresh Herbs

Another spring homemaking idea is to go to a greenhouse or nursery and invest in some pots of fresh herbs.

Every year I like to grow mint (or spearmint), basil, thyme, and rosemary. These are usually very easy to grow on the windowsill in the kitchen.

I have a supply of small terra cotta pots, and I put the little plastic pots of herbs down inside the terra cotta pots to make them look prettier.

And it’s so nice to have them there on the kitchen windowsill to add fresh herbs to recipes.

This is also a great time of year to plan out your vegetable, flower, and herb gardens! Learn how to grow herbs here.

7. Switch Out Pillow Covers and Bedding

Another thing I usually do every spring is switch out the pillow covers in the living room.

In the winter, I often use darker, cozier colors and textures. When spring rolls around, I’m ready for lighter colors and fabrics.

Switching out pillow covers can be an easy and affordable way to update the look of a room.

I also like to change out my bedding, switching from darker fabrics to my white linen duvet cover and pillow covers.

8. Make a New Meal Plan

One of the easiest spring homemaking ideas is to create a new meal plan that reflects the season.

In the winter, we usually gravitate toward cozy soups, breads, and heartier fare. And we still enjoy those in early spring!

But spring can be a great time to refresh your menu and try something new.

Also, if you have chickens, like we do, the eggs are usually plentiful in the spring. So often, we’re trying to keep up with all the extra eggs! Recipes like quiche and breakfast casserole are great for this.

A fun idea is to get out your favorite cookbooks (or get on Pinterest) and find some new recipes to try this spring.

9. Update Your Wardrobe for Spring

Once I’ve got the house looking all springy, I like to go through my clothes and update my wardrobe for spring.

In very early spring I keep out my favorite neutral-colored sweaters, but I also get out my spring skirts and dresses. I love to pair the sweaters with the dresses for a transitional outfit in early spring.

I hope these spring homemaking ideas are inspiring and helpful as you get your home and your wardrobe ready for a new season!

  1. I love spring as well and I think partly because I like spring cleaning and organizing 🙂 Thank you for sharing the inspiration on the Art of Home-Making Mondays. I also like the quote you shared from the book. I couldn't agree more with that philosophy! 🙂 Enjoy your blogging break Joy!

  2. One of my favorite things about spring cleaning is opening the windows for some fresh air! I began doing a few things last week, but then we got slammed with a bug. 🙁
So when we mend, we shall begin again.
    Hope you all are well.
    Warmly,
    Carol
