Brooke and Miss Madeline

I’m still working on finishing up my {ambitious} sewing plans for my youngest daughter. I really feel like this will be my last opportunity to sew little girl dresses, so I wanted to make the most of it. All of the patterns and fabric were from my stash, so it feels like I’m sewing for free! 🙂
This first dress is one of my favorites. I just love the bright colors and cheerful prints. This fabric came from Hobby Lobby several years ago. I love their fabric (especially when it’s on sale)!
The pattern is the Brooke Dress. It’s super easy to sew. That’s one of the main things I love about it. I made this dress in an afternoon, and that’s the kind of sewing I enjoy. I also love that it has an 18″ doll option. I have a dress just like this cut out and waiting for me to sew it up for Faith’s doll. 🙂
This is a Brooke tunic. I used some fabric that was given to me years ago, so it’s not as bright and cute as the other one. But this was my wearable muslin, just to make sure the pattern was going to fit right.
It looks almost dress length in the photo, but it’s really tunic length on my daughter, and it looks so adorable with jeans or leggings underneath!
Here is my wearable muslin for the Miss Madeline dress. I had to re-draw the pattern to make it large enough for my daughter. She’s on the upper end of the sizes, and I wanted it to fit for longer than a month or two!
This is another super-easy and quick pattern to sew. I used some calico I’ve had in my stash for a loooong time (maybe 6 or 7 years?). I’ve always loved this cheerful fabric. I have two more dresses cut out of this pattern (using cute fabric this time!) that I hope to sew up in the next couple of weeks.
And here’s a little snapshot from today. It’s so hot outside, so my younger children made a blanket house. They brought their dolls and stuffed animals and put a fan inside so they would stay cool. They played in here for such a long time!

  1. I think they turned out super cute. What a great idea to use "wearable muslin"! Then they can play outside in a dress that you don't have to be worried about getting dirty and stained. Love that. You are always so industrious and I admire that about you. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Carol! I just hate to spend time sewing something that isn't going to be worn, so that's why I started making something they could actually wear when I try out a pattern. 🙂 And thank you so much for your kind and sweet words! ♥

  2. What a lovely dress ! Beautiful fabric ! It's really fanciful making dresses for girls … I enjoyed sewing bermuda shorts for my two sons , when they were little boys !!

    1. Thank you, Gwen! These two patterns are pretty simple, but they do have a couple of tricky places if you're new to sewing (mostly just copying the patterns and reading the diagrams!). 🙂
