This is me, at the beach in Florida, looking very windblown, maybe a little sunburned, and happy. (I was trying to hold my hair out of my face, because no sooner did I let go of it, than it began to blow wildly around my face.) The fact that I’m in Florida at the beach in this picture is a miracle. I never imagined this dream would come true, but by God’s grace, it’s now part of our family’s history. So many wonderful memories were made during our week-long stay there!
Expect Miracles
I grew up with a mother who taught me to believe in miracles. My mom has so many stories of God’s miraculous protection over her, and my husband and I have many of our own stories of God’s miraculous blessing and provision. Obviously not all of my prayers are answered in the way I hope they will be (my dad’s death earlier this year is proof of that—we all prayed so hard for him, but he died anyway). Whenever my prayers aren’t answered in the way I hope they will be, I believe God knows best and then I have to leave the final decision with him. But I still believe He does do miracles!
Making History
Every day that we’re alive, we’re making history, living out a story. The way we live our lives will determine the kind of history we leave.
“The gift of history, the grace of narrative is that it is ongoing. Each generation is given the opportunity to tell their stories anew, to alter, shift, change, or restart the history into which they were born. We inherit history, in other words, but we also create it. In addition to family memory or heritage, we can draw on the memory of Scripture, the identity and narrative of mentors or cultural heroes who went before us. We can act in keeping with those whose lives wrote the kinds of stories we long to live. History, memory, heroism—they all go hand in hand.” ~Sarah Clarkson, The Lifegiving Home
What kind of story am I living? What kind of history will I leave behind? These questions help me to evaluate my life and cause me to want to live more intentionally.
I love the reminder provided by these two Cents of Style necklaces, to “expect miracles,” and “make history.”
The Cents of Style Tribe Necklaces feature inspirational and fun sayings. There are lots of different sayings to choose from, and they’re available in two styles that layer together perfectly. One is a 1.25″ round, brushed metal disc with stamped saying on a 30″ chain necklace and the other is a 1.5″ brushed metal bar with stamped saying on a 22″ chain necklace.
With sayings like, “choose joy” (I almost picked this one!), “be the good,” and “sister,” these necklaces would make a thoughtful gift for any girl/woman in your life!
I’ve already enjoyed wearing my tribe necklaces, both layered and separately. I love wearing jewelry that has meaning to me personally.
