Preparing for Advent {Our Plan for 2015}

Last year I didn’t do much planning ahead for advent. We did some crafting and other fun projects (like our annual no-bake gingerbread houses), cooked together (including making Christmas cookies), read Christmas-themed books, and had daily advent readings, but that all happened because those are things we do every year. It was very simple.
In previous years we came up with another simple plan where we wrapped up all of our Christmas books and then unwrapped one to read each day. I always gravitate toward “simple,” which equals “doable” to me!
This year I’m being a bit more intentional and planning ahead. 🙂 And we’re also incorporating a couple of new-to-us resources. We’re planning to use Truth in the Tinsel during our “morning time” together.
My plan is for the older children to help the younger children do the crafts after we do the quick devotional for each day.
I want this to be as simple and enjoyable as possible, so I gathered up as many of the needed items as I could find, and I am storing each day’s supplies in a little paper sack. I printed off these adorable watercolor advent tags and used a small clothespin to pin each bag closed.
If you don’t have the time or inclination to do the crafts, you can also use the Printable Truth in the Tinsel Ornaments
I’m storing these in a basket in our school room, so all we have to do is grab the bag for that day—simple!
In addition to Truth in the Tinsel, we’re also using this Nativity Advent Calendar, which we’re all looking forward to. We also plan to do some more in-depth advent readings for the whole family.
I know it’s not even Thanksgiving yet (and here I am thinking of Christmas!), but I just love having things planned out ahead of time. Now that I’ve got that done I’m turning my attention to some Thanksgiving baking!
