Curly Hair Favorites
As someone who was blessed with naturally curly hair, it’s a constant search for products that actually work in my hair! The Curly Girl book has helped me so much!
Here is a line-up of some of my current favorites for curly hair:
- My wide-toothed comb that came with the Wen kit my mom gave me. I use this in the shower to comb the conditioner through my hair after working out all the tangles with my fingers.
- Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil for hair treatment. This product was sent to me to review, and I really love it as a pre-wash conditioner. I smooth it through my hair before I wash it.
- Lavender spray, which I use to spritz my hair with after it has dried and may be looking a bit dull or frizzy. I also use this on second-day curls to try to revitalize the curl (by “second-day curls,” I’m referring to the day after washing my hair, if I’m not planning to wash it that day).
- Lavender essential oil, which I use to make the lavender spray. I use lavender essential oil for so many things! If I could only buy one essential oil it would be this one.
- Nature’s Gate Herbal Shampoo. My hair requires the use of some shampoo. I know some can get away without it, but my scalp produces too much oil and I must use shampoo. I don’t use it every day, and I don’t use very much (maybe about a dime-sized amount), and I only use it on the scalp. I don’t smooth it through the rest of my hair. This shampoo is very clean and natural and gentle.
- Kinky-Curly Curling Custard. I LOVE this stuff! I discovered this at the health food store a few months back, and it has been one of the best gel products I’ve ever used. And it also smells delicious and the ingredients are all-natural. I highly recommend this.
- Kinky Curly Spiral Spritz. This stuff works really well on second-day curls, and you only have to use a tiny amount. I have found with all the Kinky Curly products that very little is needed. They do cost quite a bit, but they last a long time if you use them sparingly. It probably depends on your hair type, but my hair doesn’t require much of these products.
On weekdays I let my hair air dry if I’m just staying at home, but when I’m going out I dry my hair using a diffuser. A diffuser is also really great to have in the winter if it’s too cold to air dry it.
