Yellow Ball {Before Five in a Row}
Yellow Ball is a simple yet delightful book. Â My little guy enjoyed it so much. Â The simplicity of the words seemed to almost enhance the artwork.

Once again, we enjoyed using the printables at Homeschool Share.
And he loved this Do-A-Dot “y” from Confessions of a Homeschooler.
I’m also incorporating some informal letter play into our BFIAR learning times, and I love this tactile alphabet from Plan Toys.
Inspired by Michelle (of course!), we made yellow ball prints, by dipping a foam yellow ball into paint. At first, he didn’t really want to dip his new ball in the paint, but I assured him that it would wash out just fine!
I love this puzzle, and it seemed to go with the sea theme, but it’s really way too easy for him now! Â It was perfect when he was a baby.
Several days into the story, he was so thrilled when I brought out this brand new yellow ball! Â He and his siblings had a fun time playing with it in hallway. Â And everywhere else, too.
For a fun food project, we made lemonade. Â I wanted something simple that he could do himself, and he really thought this was special.
I love his little hands squeezing the lemons! Â We made enough for everyone to have some, and he was so proud of it!
And at the end of our study, we finished with bright yellow punch ball balloons!
 August Playdough and Sensory Bin
I used my favorite playdough recipe to make some bright yellow playdough. Â I also threw in a circle cutter (for a ball shape, so he could make yellow balls), and a “y” cookie cutter, for “yellow,” and also a fish.
While we were cleaning out the garage, I found some sand, and I knew it would be perfect for a sensory bin. I just dumped it in the bin and added a shovel and some shells that were given to us. Â Adding some containers to pour the sand into makes it a lot of pouring and measuring fun!
This sensory bin also ties in perfectly with our current BFIAR book, Kittens for Keeps (a substitute for Jenny’s Surprise Summer, which is out of print and harder to come by).

Thanks for sharing these posts, I have order BFAIR and looking forward to it arriving!! Not sure what book we will start with, I'm hoping to get a least half of the list from the library and the others I'll have to see. I can't get a copy of "Yellow Ball" anywhere! Unless I'm willing to pay lots of money for it. Anyway, I'm excited to be doing this with my almost 4 yr old, we should make lots of great memories. 🙂 This coming week, I'm going to be printing out the free printables, at least get a start on that. 🙂

How fun that you're going to be doing this too, Tanya! I hope you enjoy it as much as we have. Yellow Ball is hard to find. I waited and waited, and my husband found one on Half.com or somewhere used. But I had planned on getting it from Inter-library loan, like I did with My Blue Boat.

It's funny, when I first read this book I was totally unimpressed. I guess I expected it to be more "wordy" like most books are. But the more I looked through it and see what people are doing with it the more I love the simplicity to it. I'm practically copying all your activities for BFIAR with my little one. Your pictures and ideas are great. I love seeing what you're doing! Thanks for sharing bits of your homeschool life with us!!
I kind of felt the same way when I first saw this book, Ginny. But my little guy wanted to stop and examine each page carefully. His response to the book surprised me, and he looked forward to reading it together each day.

Using the do-a-dot markers to make letters is a great idea… I'm going to use that with my 4 year old this fall!
