Instructions
Preheat the oven on the broil setting to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
Heat the oil in a large skillet on the stovetop over medium-high heat.
Add the garlic and onions to the skillet and saute until the onions are softened and aromatic.
Add the ground turkey to the skillet and cook until no longer pink, breaking the meat up with a spatula as it cooks.
Add the ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, about ½ the broth, and worcestershire sauce to the skillet and stir to combine. Add salt and pepper to taste, and continue cooking until the sauce is fully heated through. Add the remaining broth if you like a slightly thinner sauce, but be careful not to make it too runny.
Arrange the buns on a baking sheet and place a slice of cheese on the bottom half of each one.
Broil the buns in the preheated oven for 1 ½ to 2 minutes until the cheese is melted and the buns are very lightly browned.
Remove the buns from the oven and top with the sloppy joe meat and a few pickles.
Notes
Tips for Success
Don’t overcook the turkey to keep it tender and juicy.
Add the chicken broth gradually so you can adjust the consistency of the sauce.
Watch the buns carefully under the broiler since they brown quickly.
Serve immediately while the cheese is warm and melted.
