I recently finished this cross stitch project, while I wait for my baby to arrive:

The words on this cross stitch are so sweet, and they are taken from this poem:

Song for a Fifth Child
by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton
Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing and butter the bread,
Sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs.
Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

Goodness me! I think that was me who made that comment from my old blog! Thank you so much for replying! I totally forgot I wrote that since we emigrated 2 weeks after that and have been super tied up! Anyway… I just found one on EBay and bid on it. Hope I win!

Thanks so much and blessings to you and your family.

    Thank you!

This is an out-of-print pattern from the 80's, if I remember correctly (I made this several years ago for our 5th baby–my blog post date isn't accurate.). I found my pattern in a lot of cross-stitch booklets on Ebay for just a couple dollars. I think the pattern is just called "Babies Don't Keep" or something like that. Hope you can find it! 🙂

Oh this is absolutely beautiful! Do you know where I can buy a copy of the pattern?

    I feel inspired!
