Last Sunday we went to the Spring Planting Festival at Baker Creek.  It was just the girls this time.   I went with my mom and three girls, and we had a lovely day together.
My three beautiful daughters:
I loved these ladies’ dresses:
We enjoyed the music…
The shops were full of handmade items and antiques.
We went into the apothecary, where I found some peppermint tea and a loose leaf tea strainer with a tea pot on the handle.
We met up with some friends and enjoyed the fellowship.
But the highlight of the day for me was getting to meet Sarah, from As Lilies.  We’ve been corresponding with each other for about four years now, and this was the first time we’ve ever met in person.  After writing back and forth for so long, seeing Sarah and her family was kind of like meeting up with old friends.  Except we didn’t get a chance to talk long enough!  Sarah has been such a blessing and encouragement to me in so many ways, and such a lovely example of Biblical womanhood.
I’m so thankful for a happy day of making memories with friends and family.  🙂

that place looks wonderful, it looks like you had a lovely time. There is nowhere like that in England (where I live!)I will have to add it on my list of places to visit when I do get to the States! Thanks for your great posts on your blog, I'm a new reader but am enjoying them!

Georgina, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! I imagine you would love visiting there. I have a list of places I would like to go if ever I'm in England. I've been there once, years ago, but we never ventured outside the city (we were in London and Brockley).

Oh! I loved this post, Joy! And your photos are amazing! I think I need to take lessons. 🙂 You have such a good eye for photography and knowing what makes a good photo . . . yours are also so crisp and clear, too. I love the photo you got of the house, roses and the quilts on the balcony. It is a beautiful scene! And one I enjoyed gazing at while we were there . . . the screen doors, Grandmother’s Flower Garden Quilts, the arbor with the roses . . . it was so homey and peaceful.

Seeing each of the photos was like relieving being there . . . it was indeed a delightful weekend. “Stepping back in time” in a way to a simpler life and one unhindered by everything that is going on in the world around us. The atmosphere was wonderful!

Thank you so much for your sweet words!! Meeting you (and Morgan 🙂 was the greatest highlight of the day for me. If only the hours could have lasted longer, though, as it would have been SO nice to visit more!

How sweet, Sarah! Thank you! The house with the quilts and roses was so inspiring…my dream farmhouse. 🙂 I wish I had gotten a closeup of the quilts–they were so beautiful!

I agree with you about the atmosphere, too. All the old-fashioned buildings, farm implements, antiques, herbs, heirloom plants and seeds…yes, it was lovely.

Maybe we can meet up again sometime! If not this year, maybe next year at the planting festival. I'll be dressed like an Edwardian lady. 🙂

Oh what a beautiful festival! I love all the hats and bonnets and old fashioned clothing! My girls love to wear prairie bonnets all the time 🙂 Such lovely photos!

Thank you so much for your sweet comment, Emily Fay! I know, I just couldn't resist taking photos of those lovely ladies. 🙂 Seeing them made me wish I was dressed that way (and I hope to, next time)!

Our girls love their bonnets, too. The ones they already had were getting rather worn, so they were happy to each pick out a new one while we were there.

What fun!! 🙂 Looks like you all enjoyed a lovely time! 🙂 I know it is fun to meet friends for the first time after being in correspondence for a number of years. 🙂 Such a blessing!!

Hi Tanya! I know you've met several blogging friends…Sarah is the first friend that I met through blogging that I've had the privilege of meeting in person. It was such a blessing!

  7. Heather says:

All of those dresses are awesome! And the bonnets on the girls are adorable! Do you have a pattern? I can't wait for fair season in our area, of course that also means wishing away the summer…which I will not do 🙂

    1. Joy Kincaid says:

Thanks, Heather! We actually bought the bonnets while we were there, as a memento of our trip. The girls love to dress up, and bonnets are a favorite dress up item. They would be easy to sew, though!

Very nice post. I would have loved being there. Love the dresses, too. Wouldn't it be nice if women dressed that way, again. Your daughters are so sweet.

Thank you! I would love to dress that way…sometimes I do, just for fun. 🙂 After seeing these dresses, I'm inspired to go in costume next year. 🙂
