Living Like Summer is Already Here

The long days of summer are almost here, and our children are reveling in the warmth, the sunshine, and the fun. What could be better on a warm day than a water hose spraying down the slide, and landing in a mud hole at the bottom?  ðŸ™‚

Or tramping through the woods (I’m praying they didn’t get into any poison ivy) and picking a bucketful of wild blackberries, then coming inside and making a delicious berry cobbler with them? My 12-year-old daughter made this, and it was so good.  She used freshly ground whole wheat flour and rapadura and honey to sweeten it.  It didn’t last long…
My flower garden is coming to life, and so far it’s a sea of purple and lavender.  I love those colors, and I’m also waiting excitedly for the bee balm to bloom.  It’s just about ready, and the blooms are supposed to be red, so I’m looking forward to the variety.  In the picture below, you can see the blue hammock between two trees in the background.  Such a peaceful place to be in the afternoon with a good book.
With the warmer weather came a desire to be free of some of my hair.  My husband loves it, but it’s just so hot in the summer.
So, I cut off about 3-5 inches!  I didn’t measure it, so I’m not sure how much I actually took off.  I did it myself, and it was quite simple.  And I love it!  It’s so much lighter and cooler. (And my husband likes it, too. 🙂
We emptied and defrosted our big freezer, and now I’m starting to fill it up again.  This week I made a tripled batch of pizza crust and we ate two for supper and I froze the other four.  It will be such a time-saver to just pull the pre-baked crusts out of the freezer for a simple meal.
School is winding down, and books are being completed.  I’ve been doing some planning for next year…and I think it’s going to look quite different from this year.  I’ll share more about what we plan to do later.
We celebrated Memorial Day with a cookout, celebrated two birthdays, overcame an annoying cold, and began pricing things for our summer garage sale.  The days are busy!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and stay tuned for the giveaway I have planned (Lord willing) for Monday.

    It is always a blessing to come visit your blog…lovely photos, encouraging words and thoughts. The sweet dessert ~ well done, Joy's daughter! We have wild blackberries growing down the road from us and the kids LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to go there for blackberry picking. 😀 You flower garden is very inviting and I am sure continuing to burst now with color. And your beautiful locks…really lovely curls. 😀 I can relate to the length and the heat. I have been very tempted and went for my once a year hair cut to clean up the ends. She took off about 3 inches from the back {but it is still very long and I don't think the family really noticed much difference. ;)}

    Blessings ~

    1. Hi Jarnette! Thank you so much for visiting and leaving such a lovely comment.

      My family said they didn't really notice much difference in my hair, either. Now that I've had it cut for a couple of weeks, I'm thinking I may cut it again and just make it slightly shorter. 🙂

      I hope your weekend is blessed!

  2. Starting to plan for our homeschooling lessons is exactly what I need to do during the month of July. But for now, I am enjoying the wrapping up of another successful school year.

    Thank you for sharing your day with me Joy 🙂

    1. That's great that your homeschool year was a success, Maria! We had several things that didn't work as I had hoped. I have different thoughts for this coming year. 🙂

      Thank you so much for visiting, and for letting me know you were here!

    2. Would you mind sharing the cobbler recipe ? It looks really good! Looks like your having lots of fun.
