Some Favorite Children’s Books

The other day Faith gathered up a whole pile of her favorite books and sat contentedly on the couch looking at them happily. I was thinking about how much we love these books. We started reading Rod and Staff’s Little Jewel Books when Elyse (now 9) was 2. Every afternoon when it was time for her nap we would sit snuggled up with several Jewel Books. As new ones have come out we have purchased those, and now we have quite a collection. One of the wonderful things about them is how durable they are, and how inexpensive at the same time. Other cheaply made books tear easily, but not these. These are affordable, but not cheap. My favorite part is the cheerful artwork. The children love the rhyming text.

For older children we have really been happy with Sarah Maxwell’s “Moody Family Series”. You can find these books at Titus 2.com, the Maxwells’ website. Another set of books that we have come to enjoy are the “Farm Mystery Series” books by Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Castleberry, which we purchased from Grace and Truth Books. These are Elyse’s favorite books. After she reads one she likes to read it to me while I prepare dinner. She loves for me to share the story with her!

  1. Beth,

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving such nice comments today! I pray all goes well with your adoption…the heart of the Lord is for widows and orphans, so I'm sure He will bless you and your family as you follow Him in this.

  2. How sweet! My high school senior used Rod and Staff books as a little one! AND I was going to suggest Sarah Maxwell's books to you! My 14 year old girl got them when she was about 11. She loved them and I was planning to pass them to another lady HOWEVER, since we are now planning to adopt at least one little girl, I guess I just need to keep them!!
    Blessings,
    Beth
