Yes, They’re All Ours (All Five of Them)!

I’ve mentioned before how I don’t consider our little family of seven to be a large family. I guess it’s because most of my close friends have a lot more children than we do (some have more than twice as many!). And also because I really expected and hoped to have more than just five. But sometimes things don’t turn out the way we planned. Our five children are incredible blessings, and I’m so thankful for each one of them!

Even though I consider our family to be on the smaller side of “large,” I still receive my share of “Are they all yours?” questions, which are usually asked incredulously.
A couple of weekends ago, we were at an event where there were lots of people. A lady stopped us and asked if we would take a picture of her by a light display, so with a smile we said we would, if she would take one of us, too! She happily agreed, and I took a photo for her.

When it was her turn to take our picture, she looked around and said, “Are these all your children?!?” I was surprised that she viewed us as a large family, so I said, “Yes, they’re all ours, but there’s only five of them, so it’s not that many!” She looked at me and said, “Honey, you don’t look old enough to even have this many children–what, did you start when you were like, four or something?”

I laughed, and thanked her for the huge compliment. I felt complimented that she had said I didn’t “look old enough,” and my kids felt like it was a compliment that someone actually thought we had a large family, since they’re always wishing our family was larger, like some of their friends’ families.
I’m so thankful for the blessing of my five children, and I’m thankful that they’re all ours–all five of them! 🙂

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.”

  1. Your family is gorgeous!! We don't live that far apart…I think. I am in western Michigan. Anyway I hope and pray that some day we will be able to meet in person. We have three, our older daughter, 17 and almost 14 year old twin boys. We stopped after twins. :0P It would just be so fun to talk in person and hear each others stories. Merry Christmas

    1. Oh, thank you, Christy!!! Yes, it sounds like we're just a couple of states apart. That would be so fun to meet in person and get to know each other in real life.

I always wanted twins, but my brother got them (a boy and a girl)! 🙂

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

  2. Hi! My name is Meagan and I started reading your blog during your 31 days of savings. I am third of 5 children, and growing up, it never seemed like we were a large family, but many people are surprised when they ask how many siblings I have. 🙂 My mom wanted several more, as well, but God only allowed her to have five.

    1. Hi Meagan! Nice to meet you! It sounds like your family was very similar to ours. My brother and his wife also have 5 children (the first two are twins), and everyone always thinks their family is large, too. 🙂 Thank you so much for stopping by!

  3. Hi! I've just come across your blog, which is great by the way, and have a question: In the giveaways that I have been reading about through your blog, do you post to Australia free? I want to know so that if I see you giving another giveaway that I may enter and not worry about postage if I win! 🙂 Thank you.

    1. Well, it depends on the giveaway and who is sponsoring it. Some companies (usually larger ones) will pay to have the item shipped anywhere, and other companies (usually smaller ones) limit the giveaway to the U.S. only.

If it's one of my personal giveaways (that I'm funding myself), those are only open to U.S. addresses, since international shipping, customs, etc. can be expensive and a hassle to deal with. I always specify which countries are allowed to enter the giveaway on the Rafflecopter form.

Hope that helps, and thanks so much for visiting! 🙂
