2013 Book List

For several years now, I’ve made a list of the books I’d like to read for the year.  Last year’s list was pretty ambitious for a busy homeschooling mom of five who also has numerous other responsibilities and creative outlets I like to keep up with.  I did my best with it, but I didn’t finish all of those books.  Other books that were not on the list kept getting added, and then I had some that I reviewed for my blog that took up my reading time, also.
Here’s a quick list of what I actually read, with a few comments by some of them:
  1. Organized Simplicity (Second time to read this.)
  2. The Mom Walk (I enjoyed this book so much.)
  3. Radical
  4. A Mother’s Heart (This is now a favorite mothering book.  It was excellent, and I’ll be referring to it again.)
  5. Lessons at Blackberry Inn
  6. No Ordinary Home (I gained some great ideas from this book that I hope to implement in our home.)
  7. The Best Half of Life
  8. Love Your Husband, Love Yourself
  9. Tell Your Time
  10. Health for Godly Generations (Read my review here.)
  11. Homeschool Sanity
  12. Queen of the Home (Very encouraging and enjoyable to read.)
  13. Raising Real Men (Read my review here.)
  14. How to Grow Your Blog and Manage Your Home (Great read for blogging mothers!)
  15. How to Design a Blog for Free (I’ve been blogging for going on five years, and I learned some really helpful things from this book!)
  16. True Christian Motherhood (Beautiful encouragement for mothers.)
  17. Sweet Journey (Titus 2 discipleship–I highly recommend.)
  18. Trim Healthy Mama (Read my review here.)
So, there’s what I actually read this past year, not including several cookbooks and online articles.  I also read through the New Testament and part of the Psalms.  Some of the books on this year’s list were on my list last year.  My list for 2013 was a bit longer, but I pared it back to just the ones I knew I really wanted to read.

1.   Bonhoeffer:  Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy (I’m about 1/3 of the way into this.  It is a massive book, and very interesting so far.  Once I start reading it I have a hard time putting it down.  So, I haven’t picked it up in a couple of months, since I haven’t had time to do much reading lately.)

7.   Bruchko
12. Kept for the Master’s Use (Already reading this, and it is simple yet profound.  So far I really like it.)
Who knows if I’ll actually get all of these read this year?  Will new books be added to replace these?  I hope not, as I’m really looking forward to reading each one of them.
What are you reading?  Have you read any of the books on my list?

  1. I am SUCH a book-a-holic that I don't make a reading list for the year. I did that year before last, then felt bad when I didn't read most of the books on my list. However, I did read dozens of others! SO I check out stacks from the library, then read as the fancy strikes me.
I count myself lucky that I don't have to force myself to read, but I truly do love it!! I am working through my first stack of the year right now; a mix of fiction and non-fiction. Currently reading an Amish fiction book, Money Saving Mom's Budget, and Grace Based Parenting. Just finished Almost Amish…and yes, I have a complete obsession with anything Amish!!
I also read stuff on the Kindle app on my iPhone. Currently reading a couple different blogging books, along with Have A New You by Friday, and The Old Schoolhouse magazine.

    1. Thanks for sharing what you're reading, Dawn! I really enjoyed "The Money Saving Mom's Budget" (I reviewed the audio version, so I could listen to it while I knit!).

  2. Hi Joy ! Thanks for sharing this list, there are a bunch of great ideas ! I also wanted to let you know that I enjoy reading your blog where there's good thoughts and encouragement ! Your family is beautiful and it's a great example !
May our Lord bless you richly !
