A couple of months ago I made these cute ruffle skirts for the younger girls, using some measurements and instructions I found in an out-of-print quilting magazine.  They were so easy and the girls love them.  I loved finding the fabric on sale, and I only needed 1 yard for each skirt (about 1/2 yard of each different fabric).  As much as I love long skirts, these shorter ones paired with leggings or tights are so great for active girls…they don’t get caught in bike chains and they don’t get in the way when you’re trying to climb a tree or something!

    Jarnette, Maria and Leigh,

Thanks so much for your kind comments! I'll see what I can do about getting a tutorial together. 🙂

I like the rose theme and pretty pink colors of your play-skirts. Leggings are what my own girls wore under their play-dresses, too.

The department stores should take a tip from bloggers when it comes to children's clothes.

    Dear Joy-
Sign me up for that tutorial! I'm a beginning sew-er and these look like I might be able to give them a try. I would love to learn.
    Peace,

Yes, a tutorial is needed! 🙂

The fabrics look so much fun together…and the girls have grown so much.

I'll "third" Mrs. Rabe's request for a tutorial/measurement instructions! I, too, have active girls and agree that this is a lovely alternative for outdoor active play and still remains feminine. 😉 Thanks for sharing and I hope to be able to glean from your creative find, too.

    Blessings,

    Jarnette

    Madame Wildflower~
    Thank you!

    Sarah~
Thanks! Yes, they've gotten lots of wear already…and they've even been tested out on some hay bales at a friends house…they were great for running and climbing on the huge hay bales!

Well, yes, I would consider doing a tutorial for these! In fact, I already took the photos of each step when I made these this summer! Thanks for asking…I was vacillating between "should I, or shouldn't I?" Your request lets me know that at least two people would be interested in it! 🙂

    I second Mrs. Rabe's request! 🙂

What cute skirts for your girls! I like the floral patterns with the polka dots. 🙂

  9. Sarah says:

They are cute, Joy! And your fabric combinations look so good together. I am sure your girls love wearing them!

  10. Mrs.Rabe says:

Those are so cute! As they grow you could add another ruffle!

Would you consider a tutorial or at least instructions as far as measurements?

    Thanks!
