More Than Rules: Exploring the Heart of Beauty and Modesty {Giveaway!}

Modesty has been a much-discussed topic in our home through the years, and I’ve read many books and articles about it.  When I saw my friend Bambi’s book, More Than Rules, I knew it was one I wouldn’t want to miss, as I just love her writing (and her blog, In the Nursery of the Nation, is one of my favorites!).  But most of all I love her heart, and this book didn’t disappoint!
More Than Rules is the most balanced book on modesty that I’ve ever read.  Bambi doesn’t give you a list of rules to follow, but she also doesn’t minimize the importance of modesty.  She encourages you to look at why you wear what you wear, and who you are trying to please–others, or God?
As a woman who is past her twenties and the mother of several children, I so much appreciated the encouragement to think of our bodies in terms of what they have accomplished (bearing children and pouring out our lives for them) rather than looking to the world for our affirmation in that area.  Time will make its mark on us, and giving birth can take its toll on our bodies, but “God tells us to pursue a beauty that is of great worth;” “God’s standard [of beauty] is within reach of all Christians;” and “God tells us that the beauty of soul that comes from Him will grow more beautiful with the passing of time.”  (Quotes from Chapter 3)

  1. Thanks so much for posting this, just ordered my copy. This is something I struggle with as an Aunt, when I see the way my Nieces and a lot of grade school age girls dress.
