A Ruby Top
Last spring I decided to make myself some spring tops. I started with Made by Rae’s Ruby pattern, since I liked the simplicity of it.
I found some cotton voile that I really loved, and went to work on it. It was fairly simple to sew (which is my favorite type of sewing!).
I made my own bias binding, and I love not having to deal with facings.
I do love the voile, but I found that it did need a cami or layering tee since it’s pretty sheer. Depending on your physique, a pattern with these lines could possibly make you look like you’re expecting, which is why I like to wear this with a cardigan or something over it. (Although now that I’m healing my diastasis, I’m enjoying not having to worry about that as much!)
Overall, I think it’s a cute and comfy top.
I still have some fabric left over from last spring (that I bought to make more tops), so I may make some more soon. Do you have a favorite spring/summer top pattern? I’d love to hear suggestions if you have any!
I love the fabric you chose! And as an ironic sidenote – Rae Hoekstra was actually my 10th grade physics teacher!
Thank you, Julianne! And how interesting that Rae was your physics teacher! Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment! 🙂
That is pretty.
Thank you!
I love the top! Such a fresh look!! Thanks for sharing this sewing inspiration on the Art of Home-Making Mondays Joy! 🙂
Thank you, JES! 🙂
Very cute shirt! I like the loose simple flowing style of it and the fact that it can be layered!
Thank you! I love layering too! 🙂
I have always enjoyed a loose aline pattern which gives a bit of shape but is flowing. I am a bit wide at the hip as well.
Love the print you have chosen, very feminine. There is something about cardigans that says feminine also. Nice combination.
Thank you!
It's so pretty! The print of fabric you got was very pretty, and the sweater was a nice fat cherry on top! Great!:)

Thanks! 🙂
I love that material and the style! I cannot sew but can crochet. Good for you! It is both cute and flattering.

Thank you, Christina!
Simple is more, isn't it? Beautiful shirt!
Thank you!
