Annual Family Camping Trip

Yesterday we got back from our family camping trip. Despite the fact that rain was predicted for every day of our trip, we had a wonderful time.
I always take this quilt that my husband’s grandma made. I love it because it’s practical and beautiful.
Our cabin had electricity (yay, air conditioning!) but no water or bathroom. Here’s the emergency toilet. Kind of like a chamber pot idea. 🙂
When we arrived, it was raining. But then the rain stopped, so we quickly built a fire and started grilling hamburgers.
After hamburgers we made s’mores. For the two girls in braces who couldn’t eat s’mores, we made this chocolate s’mores pie, which was delicious!
After eating, we changed into swimsuits to go out on the lake.
It was such a beautiful evening. The rain just seemed to make everything more beautiful.
The next day we started out early to go fishing.
The boys also had a remote control boat they tried out:
Then we came back to the cabin to roast hot dogs for lunch.
Then we went swimming. It was a perfect day for enjoying the water. Everything was so beautiful.
I love swimming, and I was in the water for an hour or two. I was using some natural sunscreen on my face, but I can’t remember now if I put any on my shoulders. I got a horrible sunburn! I haven’t had a sunburn like this since my teen years. And I got that burn at the lake, too. Next time I swim at the lake I’m going to wear a long-sleeved rash guard!
We made lots of happy memories during our camping trip: swimming, fishing, grilling hamburgers and roasting hot dogs, making s’mores, playing board games, and reading aloud.
Despite the minor challenges we had (rain, uncomfortable beds, and my bad sunburn situation), I’m so glad we went. But I was very glad to get home, too!

  1. Oooh, ouch! Those kinds of sunburns can be miserable! Aloe Vera Gel can help soothe it.
Times away like that are so fun…and… home never looked so good. 🙂

    1. Yes, it was miserable! Thankfully the pain is starting to subside. 🙂 I did bring a bottle of aloe vera gel with us, and we kept it in the fridge so I was able to apply cold gel to the burn soon after getting it. I used up half the bottle! I also applied lavender oil which is supposed to help. I still look a little like a lobster, but thankfully it's getting better. I ordered a long-sleeve rash guard yesterday. 🙂
