One of My Favorite Dress Patterns

Jennie’s Regency Gown Pattern was my absolute favorite pattern as a young mother.  I made many of these dresses, including maternity and nursing-accessible versions.  I loved feeling like I just stepped out of history.   They are so gracefully beautiful.

  1. Thank you so much for the kind words! I love, love, love my customers and their creativity. I also made a lot of maternity/nursing Regency gowns and half robes. They work so nicely. Glad you enjoyed yours!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Jennie! I spent many happy hours sewing with your patterns. Thanks for being an inspiration!

  2. I have always loved this pattern! Your dresses look wonderful! I still am wanting to get this pattern at some point. I'd love to maybe make it tea length and wear it to work. 🙂

  3. The only dress I have sewn for myself was from one of Jennie's regency patterns. I'm still learning to sew, but I would love to try more. I really like the ones you made.

  4. This is just a stunning dress! Love the vintage look! I love the older style dresses because they have such a romantic flair about them and yet look so comfortable to! I'm not a seamstress, but have lots of respect for those of you who do! Wonderful how you can teach your daughter's to sew!

  5. I like the Women's Panel Dress from Common Sense Patterns. http://www.modestpatterns.com/csp_main.htm

I've made it four times and will soon be making it again.
I'd love to see some more posts about what you've been sewing. I've been making handbags in an effort to build up stock so that I can reopen my etsy shop.

I guess I should do a little sharing about my sewing on my blog, too.

    Blessings from Harvest Lane Cottage!

    1. Thank you so much for sharing about that pattern, Laura! I've used some of their patterns, also, and really loved the square neck dress.

I hope to do more sewing in the coming months, and I'll be sure to share about it!

  6. Hi Joy!
The pictures of the dresses you made are just lovely and your hair is gorgeous too! I am just learning to sew and wish I would have learned when I was younger! I love that your daughter would want to wear a dress that matches her mom at her age—you two must be very close!

    1. Thank you, Tricia! I learned to sew while I was expecting my first baby, and I've been in love with it ever since! 🙂

My daughter and I are very close, and it helps that she has friends who also like to wear historical clothing. Homeschooling has been a blessing, as it does away with a lot of the peer pressure to be "cool."

  7. Hi Miss Joy! That is a lovely pattern. I would love to sew a dress for myself. I have a pattern that is something from the Jane Austen era. It is a lot more modest though. I am sure Elyse would love it. We should all get together and sew dresses sometime. Maybe Elyse and I could make similar dresses and wear at Music Fest in August. Hope you are all feeling better. Blessings, Grace Mae

    1. Hi Grace Mae!

Yes, I always have made adjustments to my pattern to make it more modest. That would be fun to wear similar dresses to the Music Fest. I had thought of that. Although I have this beautiful Renaissance-era dress pattern that Elyse really likes, too. I wish I had more time to sew right now… 🙂

  8. I usually just do skirts for me.

I do have this pattern of Jennie's and the Elegant Lady's Closet! I may need to make something out of this delightful pattern for one of my girls for Easter!

    1. I usually do skirts these days, too. They're faster and they can hide some of the figure issues I've acquired these past few years. 🙂

The Elegant Lady's Closet pattern looks very pretty. I love the neckline. It would make great Easter dresses!

    1. Thank you, Laura! My daughter was standing here reading the comments with me, and she said, "Oh, that would be fun, if we all had coordinating regency dresses!" 🙂

  9. Oh Joy, I love the Regency dresses and share your heart for history. I have been eyeing that one for my daughter, I just don't know if we can pull it off. Is it pretty simple? Our skills are basic at this point. Have a wonderful weekend 🙂

    1. Thank you JES! I don't know if I would call it simple, but you could use it to increase your sewing skills! Jennie has excellent photo instructions on her website, here. A lot of my sewing skills came from just making regency dresses over and over and over. 🙂
