My Crazy Spring Break

“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”
~Proverbs 16:9

You know how you make plans and then nothing turns out as you expected? Well, that’s exactly what happened to my spring break plans. Pretty much nothing went as planned. But, lots of good things still happened, so it all turned out okay. But, boy, was it crazy! 🙂

  • First, we had a miserable cold going through the family (I prayed and prayed, and I’m so thankful that I never got it!).
  • We totally cleaned our whole basement, which was a really, really good thing. I’m loving having a newly cleaned and organized space to work, do school, craft, etc.
  • I gave 5 haircuts in one afternoon.
  • I took my oldest to get her driver’s permit. To celebrate such a huge milestone (our first child to drive!), I took her out for a salted caramel mocha.
Our new driver. 🙂
  • After years of insisting on using checks and cash, I finally entered the modern age and activated my bank card. This was huge for me. And then the first time I used it, it was declined (due to a bank error when they set up the card). It was so embarrassing, but I’m thankful that at least I had enough cash in my purse to pay for the coffee and lunch I bought for myself and my daughter!
  • I spent a whole afternoon with a friend and loved the fellowship (but didn’t get to the things on my to-do list–I decided it was worth it).  🙂
We ♥ Aldi!
  • My husband and I took the seats out of our van, filled it up with stuff from our basement clean out, and made a huge donation to the thrift store.  Then we did our monthly grocery shopping.
  • My grandma (who I hadn’t seen in 10 years!) came to stay the week with my parents. I tried to see her as much as possible while she was here, since I never get to see her. I’m so thankful for the happy memories I have of our visit!
Trim Healthy Mama “Earth Milk”
  • I started my first Trim Healthy Mama “Fuel Cycle,” which is supposed to help rev up your metabolism. When I picked this week to start, I had no idea that it would be filled with social engagements! It was really difficult sticking to it with all the activity, but I made it! Now I’m on my second week. I’ll share more about that in a future post (what I’ve been eating and the results I’ve seen).
  • I went to a lovely spring garden party with my girls. We had such a fun time dressing up and enjoying an afternoon of fellowship. I’ll share more about that later, also (with lots of photos!).

So, that pretty much sums up the craziness! (Just add to that meal planning and cooking, Bible study with my daughters, a church Bible study night, laundry, church, a mini family reunion, having our septic pumped, Easter, and everyday life…and that might be why I’m tired!)

  1. Such a busy time! Like you, I am an introvert as well, and I find that after these busy times I am exhausted and ready for my much needed quiet time. Too much stimulation overwhelms me, although it sure does feel good to get things done! 🙂

    1. Yes, the past couple of weeks have been overwhelming to me, even though I had lots of fun. 🙂 I'm so glad this week we've been able to stay home. Glad to meet another introvert! 🙂

  2. It sounds to me like the Lord provided LOTS of refreshment, just not the way you were expecting, but so fun. 🙂 So thankful that the Lord knows just what we need and when. And… I don't know about you, but the thought of having your entire basement clean, and purged is success enough!
Those big projects are so satisfying when completed.
Have you tried the THM pancakes. So simple and easy and filling. I don't use very many of their recipes, I more try to combine correctly. It seemed easier to incorporate THM into our lives that way.
    Have a lovely week.

    1. Yes, I'm so thankful that the Lord knows what we need, even though as an introvert I felt a bit exhausted after all of the activity! 🙂

And, yes, getting the basement cleaned was such a huge thing–I'm so, so glad!

Can you believe that I still haven't tried the THM pancakes?!? I have no idea why I haven't tried them. I should! That's smart to find ways to make the plan fit into your life more easily. I've done a bit of that, too.

I hope you also have a great week! ♥

    1. Thank you, Fiona! It was such a blessing to see my grandmother and also get our basement cleaned! I'm thankful. 🙂

I'm glad that at least they don't get an actual driver's license at 15, it's just a permit with restrictions, and they have to have an adult present whenever they drive. Then they can get the license at 16. I'd be happy for her to wait until 17, though! 🙂 The state my husband grew up in, they allowed kids to get a permit at 14, which seems very young to me! 🙂
