8 Goals for This Week + What I Wore

I love my newly organized spice/baking cupboard!

I hope you had a great weekend! I am so thankful for all the beautiful family time we got to spend together over the weekend. It was such a huge blessing! My husband works over 70 hours a week, and he never has the weekends off. So it seems like he’s always working and it’s so hard to find time to just enjoy being together as a family. Well, this weekend he was able to take off and we just enjoyed some much-needed family time. I loved it so much, and I’m carrying those happy memories into this week. 🙂
And, I was also able to check off almost everything on my goals list from last week!

Here are the goals from last week:

Marriage:
  • Plan another date night with my husband.
Mothering:
  • Read aloud several more chapters of Little House in the Big Woods. Finished the book!
  • Finish the scrapbook I’m working on for my daughter’s birthday.
Homemaking:
  • Finish filing papers.
  • Organize and wipe down one kitchen cupboard.
  • Clear off and organize my desk.
Personal:
  • Be in bed by 10:30 every night (this would be a miracle if I can actually do it!). This was a total fail, and I ended up going to bed very late a couple of nights for various reasons. I’ll try again this week!
  • Exercise 3 days this week.
  • Read 5 chapters in my current book. I read about 13!
One of my goals was to organize this cupboard, and I’m so glad I was able to get it done:
Every time I get something out of my neat and orderly spice/baking cupboard I feel so happy! Paying attention to these small details really makes a huge difference to me. I hadn’t organized this cupboard since last summer, so it was really needing it!
Here are my goals for this coming week:
Marriage:
  • Date with husband (in case you’re wondering, we have most of our dates at home!)
Mothering:
  • Spend 30 minutes of one-on-one time with each child.
Homemaking:
  • Start an immune support tincture for the coming cold/flu season.
Homeschool:
  • Make costumes for girls (they asked me to make costumes for an upcoming event we’re attending).
  • Finish school planning. I’m still working on this, but I really need to finalize everything. Hopefully this week.
Personal:
  • Read 5 chapters of my current book.
  • Exercise 3 days this week.
  • Be in bed by 10:30.

Here’s what I wore last week–my new skirt that I mentioned in this post! I used the same skirt pattern I always use.
Cardigan: Thrift store, gift from my sweet mother-in-law
Cami: Dollar General
Skirt: Made by me
Aqua Sandals/Clogs: Zulily
Necklace: Lisa Leonard, anniversary gift from in-laws
Pearl Headband: Lilla Rose
I’m so thankful to my generous in-laws, who gave me the money to purchase this special 15th anniversary necklace last year (it has our wedding date on the back):
I love the pearl headband from Lilla Rose:
And last week was my second-oldest daughter’s thirteenth birthday! She decided to make cupcakes, and they turned out so delicious:
Here I am with the birthday girl. How can she be as tall as her mother?
I had to get a picture with a couple of my other sweet little ones! (Ezra’s hair is wet because he just washed it!)
Skirt: Zulily
Top: Thrift store
Tank Top: Target
Flip-Flops: Target
Scarf: Land’s End (a few springs ago)
Flower Headband: Walmart ? (And I made the pink flower headband my daughter is wearing!)
I’ve worn this outfit before (I wear it a lot because it’s so comfy!). In this post I wore a necklace with it. This time I added a pink scarf for a bit more color.
And here’s something I just learned from my oldest daughter–did you know that you can turn any scarf into an infinity scarf? I didn’t know this, but my daughter showed me how!
All you do is tie the four corners of the scarf together:
And it turns it into an infinity scarf! I thought this was a neat trick that will extend the options for my little collection of scarves. 🙂

  1. Lovely post! I just get excited about organized cupboards, I am a home-making nerd in that way 🙂 Thank you for sharing on the Art of Home-Making Mondays this week!

P.S. I had a daughter turn 13 this year, it was bittersweet for this mama…

  2. I love your skirt! Is it easy to make, and can you make it non maternity ( I noticed the pattern is a maternity skirt). Considering purchasing the pattern.

    1. Thank you! Yes, it's super easy to make (I can make one in an afternoon), and I long ago altered my pattern for regular (non-maternity) wear. All you do is eliminate the maternity panel and then draw up the pattern a bit. She gives you some instruction on how to do that in the pattern (I have an older, print version from several years ago, so not sure what the new one is like).

  3. Love your outfits and how you organized your spice cupboard! I love seeing how others organize as I'm always looking for help as I just am lost when it comes to organizing! What a fun birthday party! Love you guys!

  4. I need to organize more. We started back to school this week so it has been "fun." Love the skirt you made. ;0) I need to finish up my second one of that. Perhaps I should try the list thing…. Yes I am rambling.

    1. Hi Christy! You're ahead of me, since we haven't even started school yet. I usually wait until the first week of September. But I kind of wish we had already started so we could be finished sooner. 🙂

I love making lists! They really help keep me focused. I never get everything done on my lists, but I keep making them anyway. 🙂
