9 Goals for This Week + What I Wore

Happy Monday! I kept thinking I would make it back here before now, but it was such a busy week that it never happened. I worked hard at my goals, and I still wasn’t able to finish them all! Here are the goals I shared last week:
Marriage:
  • Make time for a special date with my husband. ♥
Mothering:
  • Finish reading aloud Little House in the Big Woods. (I read several chapters, but didn’t finish.)
  • Plan a special birthday party for my daughter who will be turning 13!
  • Finish the scrapbook I’m working on for my daughter’s birthday. (Just barely got started on this–and now I’ve only got a few days to work on it!)
Homemaking:
  • Finish filing papers. (I got most of them filed, but not all.)
  • Purge files in file cabinet.
  • Spend a day working on meals for the freezer. (This took me two afternoons.)
Personal:
  • Finish reading one book on my book list.
  • Cut out and sew up a new skirt.
So, there were several things I didn’t finish, but I did accomplish quite a bit! I’m most excited about the fact that I now have two weeks’ worth of freezer meals put together! And the really great thing about these is that all you do is thaw them and put them in the crock pot.
While I was chopping vegetables, the older girls were practicing their instruments. It’s kind of fun to chop to bluegrass…
The younger ones were playing. Here is one of many forts they’ve made this summer. This one is complete with an old mailbox and a little clothesline where they washed and hung out their doll clothes:
I made two pans of chocolate chip bars and then I wasn’t sure they were good enough to take to the church function we were going to, so we kept tasting them to make sure they were okay. And then part of the pan was gone, so I decided to make pumpkin bars to take instead.
My oldest daughter Elyse celebrated her 15th birthday, so we had a little party. And now this week I have another party to pull off. Thankfully, we keep them simple and my daughters like to make their own cakes, so it shouldn’t be too difficult. 🙂
Here are the goals I hope to accomplish this week:
Marriage:
  • Plan another date night with my husband.
Mothering:
  • Read aloud several more chapters of Little House in the Big Woods.
  • Finish the scrapbook I’m working on for my daughter’s birthday.
Homemaking:
  • Finish filing papers.
  • Organize and wipe down one kitchen cupboard.
  • Clear off and organize my desk.
Personal:
  • Be in bed by 10:30 every night (this would be a miracle if I can actually do it!).
  • Exercise 3 days this week.
  • Read 5 chapters in my current book.
Hair Accessory: Lilla Rose
Natural Makeup: Cowgirl Dirt
Here’s what I wore to a concert last Friday night:

Half-Tee: Deborah & Co.

Somehow sharing my goals here gives me a bit of accountability and encourages me to accomplish more. Do you have any goals you’re working toward this week?

  1. Hi, I love the look of your blog! Mine is pretty plain Jane, but eventually. . . I guess that's one of my goals 😉 I like the idea of listing your goals for the world to see, and then (satisfyingly) crossing them off! We read the Little House series over and over. The kids love them and they inspire me so much. When I've been sitting in front of my computer for too many hours, I try to imagine Ma doing the same and it prompts me to get on my feet and get things done! Found you at What I Wish Wednesday and plan to follow you!

    1. Thank you, Magi! I'm so glad you came to visit. The template editor thingy on my blog is broken, so I'm stuck with this look forever, apparently! The only thing I can change now is the header and things in the sidebar. So, I'm happy to hear some positive feedback about it!

We also read the Little House series over and over. We started reading them when my oldest two (now 15 and 13) were just little girls, and then we re-read them every so often since they're such favorites. And I agree, Ma is an inspiration to not be idle!

Hope to see you here again! 🙂

  2. Aww, that's very sweet of you, JES–thank you! I've really enjoyed getting to know you a bit through blogging, and I so enjoy your lovely blog as well! Thanks again for such a sweet comment!

  3. I also enjoy reading your posts. They share home-making in such a beautiful way 🙂 Please join us next Monday for the Art of Home-Making Mondays Joy! (P.S. Your blog was one of the first one's I ever followed… It is just lovely.)

  4. I have a goal! I've had a brilliant idea in the last few days to make a sort of a binder to get ready for fall. I'm going to plan out the decorating, some activities, and some recipes to make sure we have a memorable fall, and I have to hurry so I can share it on my blog hopefully by Sept. 1! I never loved fall so much until I moved to FL where summer is soooooooooooooooo hot! I enjoyed visiting your blog. I wonder if you'd mind sharing about your experience with Lilla Rose. I've considered becoming a consultant and would love to hear an insider's opinion. Thank you! My email is [email protected].

    1. Nice to meet you, Kim! Your fall binder sounds like a wonderful idea! Fall is one of my favorite seasons, and I always look forward to decorating for it.

I'd love to share my experience with Lilla Rose with you. I'll send you an email.

  5. I'm with Angela. Reading your goals motivates me to put some of mine on paper for the week. I truly get more done when I do. Love that pink blouse, too! I wear a lot of black but then try to do somethng bright with it. ~Pamela

  6. I love reading about others goals…for some strange reason it really motivates me! So, thank you! 🙂 I also enjoy your "what I wore" posts. I like that you put the source for everything, it gives me lots of ideas about where to shop!

    ~Angela

    1. Thank you for the encouragement, Angela! I've been so happy with my progress since I've been sharing my goals publicly. Something about knowing I'm going to have to report on my progress really inspires me to get going on my projects! Thank you for being part of my accountability team! 🙂

  7. I just found your blog and love it! I will continue to follow for sure! I am a big goal list maker and it is fun to see what others put on theirs. do you have your recipe for choc. chip bars? They look delicious and know my husband and boys would love them! 🙂 Thank you again for such a great blog!

    1. Welcome, and thank you so much for visiting!

I'd love to share the recipe for the chocolate chip bars! I'll try to do that this week–maybe Friday. 🙂

  8. seeing your goals encourages me to start making goals for myself as well. It looks good to write it down and be able to cross them off. You are an inspiration to me:)

    1. I'm so glad if it's helpful, Wilma! It was seeing another blogger's goals that encouraged me to start sharing mine. 🙂 Thank you so much for your sweet comment!

    1. Thank you so much, Carol! And thank you for sharing your friend's post–I loved reading that, especially all the ones she marked "fail!" I have a LOT of those when it comes to my goals. I'm sure I'll be sharing several "fails" along the way! But then there are the things that do get crossed off the list, and those feel so great have accomplished. Some of the goals I'm accomplishing this year are actually things I didn't get to last year! 🙂

Hope your day has been blessed!

  9. Isn't freezer cooking the best??? I'm freezer cooking for baby #3 who will be here in about 30 days. I've got close to 30 meals in my freezer. Some require the crock pot and others the oven. Either way, easy!!! I've become pretty in love with freezer cooking and think I may want to continue once we run out of what we have. It's so nice to spend a couple hours prepping and then having lots of food to eat for a couple weeks.

I love that blue polka dot dress. It's so pretty!

I love seeing other people's goals, too. I had specific goals I set for the year and monthly but then found out I was pregnant and the exhaustion and nausea hit, so my goals went out the window. I continued to nest once I felt better so I accomplished some of my organizing goals but it ended about there. 🙂 Now, I'm in baby mode and getting all set up and I'm about there. Just a few more needs and a few more meals and I'll be ready for her!

    1. Yes, I LOVE freezer cooking! It's such a wonderful feeling to be prepared, at least for the main dish. I'm hoping to make freezer cooking a regular habit. It's great for nights when we have a Bible study or another activity planned.

Congratulations on baby #3! That's so exciting!

Thank you about the blue dress. I really love it, especially since it's knit and so comfy!

I can totally relate with pregnancy kind of doing away with goals. I never get much accomplished during my pregnancies. That's okay, though, since you're growing a baby!!

  10. I really like the idea of freezer meals and using the crockpot but they always seem to turn out mushy when I try them. Maybe I should try setting weekly goals…I might actually get more stuff done.

    1. Well, I may run into the mushy situation, too. I haven't actually tried these recipes yet! 🙂

It's really helping me so much to set weekly goals and especially posting about them here. It's such an encouragement for me to be a bit more productive!
