Seasons

“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven…”  ~Ecclesiastes 3:1

As a mother I am constantly in changing seasons.  First, there was the season with just babies and toddlers.  Then I had a baby, a toddler, a preschooler and a first grader.  I thought that was the busiest I could get.  But somehow, this past year has been a blur.  I don’t know if it’s the mix of ages we now have or the number of children or what it is, but this is the busiest I’ve been yet!  When I started out I had dreams of sewing most of the family clothing.  I also enjoyed making baby quilts and doing other crafts.  I loved cooking and baking just for fun.  But now, it seems like the time for sewing and quilting just isn’t there.  I could push myself to do those things, but something else would have to be set aside.  On a daily basis I’m having to decide what to make a priority and what to let go.  It’s a balancing act.
What are the most important things as a mother?  I love to make things by hand.  But right now I’m finding it harder and harder to fit those things in.  If buying the clothing from the thrift store means more time reading to my children, that seems like the best choice for right now.  The wisest and most successful mothers seem to know what their priorities are.  I’m praying that I will have the wisdom to make the best choices for each day, and to remember that there will be a season for all those other things, just maybe not today.

  1. Dear Mary,

Thank you so much for leaving your wise thoughts on this! It is so easy to let myself get overextended, as there are so many things I love to create!

    Blessings to you!

  2. Ohhhh I know these feelings. You are very wise in picking a choosing what is important. Pacing is vital. Pick projects and enjoy making them for the ones you love and then fill in the holes with treasures you find at the second chance stores. All will be blessed and your heart will be so filled and thankful too.

    Blessings and ((HUGS))
    -Mary
