The Rhythm of Real Life

“There is, of course, no such thing as a typical day in our home, or in any homeschooling home for that matter!

Daily routines are routinely subverted by unexpected distractions, teachable moments, lessons from living, the unrelenting unpredictability of the human child, and even the occasional sinfulness of the all-too-human parent.

And yet a very definite rhythm characterizes the homeschool lifestyle.  It is the rhythm of purpose.  It is the rhythm of real life.”

  1. Oh I love Sally Clarkson. Went to one of her conferences years ago. I agree totally about the life of a homeschooling family. We have been at it for 16 years now. Wouldn't change it for the world and the result is so worth it.

I know what you mean about how the reality often is different than the written plan! That happens to me *daily*! 🙂

    Thank you!

    Tanya~
I just read little bits here and there. While the little ones are napping and after they go to bed. But it usually is just a *bit* here and there, not long hours spent reading! And I usually have several different books going at once so I can read whichever one I'm in the mood for. 🙂

    Elaine~
Thank you so much for offering your perspective and encouragement! It is so encouraging to hear from mothers who have been at it longer–especially when they say it is all worth it!

    Heather~
    Thanks! 🙂

  3. Excellent quote! In fact, as I was reading it, it took me to yesterday as the day unfolded, how different our rhythm is compared to what I write on paper 🙂

Thank you for sharing Joy 🙂

  4. How true that quote is! And it's good to keep in mind, too, when schedules and routines don't happen – remembering that that's just a part of life. 🙂

On a different note, your home is so lovely and homey!
