Why You’ll Love These Chocolate Covered Apple Slices

I have so many happy memories surrounding fall and caramel apples. As a child, caramel apples were one of the highlights of the fall season!

These chocolate covered apple slices are reminiscent of caramel apples, as the apples are on a stick and have caramel drizzled over them.

However, I think these are so much easier to eat than a traditional caramel apple, since there’s only a part of the apple on a stick, so it’s easier to bite into.

Also, there are so many more options for decorating these chocolate apple slices! Kids think this recipe is so much fun, as they can choose their favorite toppings for their apple slices. Mini M&Ms, sprinkles, chocolate chips, chopped nuts, coconut flakes—there are so many options! Pick whatever you like best to sprinkle over your apple slices.

Making these chocolate covered apple slices is a great fall family tradition to start! This is such a fun recipe for kids to help with, and just like making gingerbread houses at Christmas, they’ll look forward to making these every year.

How to Make Chocolate Covered Apple Slices

1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

2. Cut apples into ½ inch thick slices and place on a paper towel. Put another paper towel on top of the apples and gently press down to remove as much excess water as possible. If the apples are wet, the chocolate will not stick.

3. Using a knife, cut a small slit in the bottom of the apple. Then, insert the popsicle stick. (Using a knife first will prevent the apple from cracking when inserting the stick.)

4. In a microwave safe bowl, melt the chocolate wafers according to the package.

5. Dip apple slices into the melted chocolate and use a spoon/spatula to cover completely. Let any excess chocolate drip off and place the apple onto the baking sheet to harden. Repeat until all the apples are coated. Place in the refrigerator to harden.

6. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, melt the white chocolate wafers according to the package.

7. Pull the apples out of the fridge and drizzle with white chocolate.

8. Lastly, make the caramel by adding the melting caramels and heavy cream to a small saucepan on low heat. Stir constantly for 3-5 minutes until a smooth sauce has formed. Immediately drizzle onto the apples.

Chocolate Dipped Apple Slices Tips:

In place of popsicle sticks, you could also try a lollipop stick.

If you want to make the apple slices in advance, before dipping in the melted chocolate, briefly soak them in a small amount of lemon juice, then pat them dry with a paper towel. The lemon juice will help prevent the apples from browning as quickly. However, I’d only recommend making them a couple of hours in advance. These are best eaten fairly soon after making them.

How to Store Chocolate Apple Slices

Serve your chocolate covered apple slices shortly after making them for best flavor and texture. These don’t keep well long term, and are best eaten within an hour or two after making them.
