In the fall, I use this fall simmer pot recipe. During the Christmas season, I love to fill the entire house with the scent of warm spices like cinnamon, cloves, and anise. I also love adding the scent of oranges to this blend. Your family will smell this and think you’re baking something delicious, like these cranberry orange muffins!

How to Make a Christmas Simmer Pot

Here are the simple step-by-step instructions for making your own Christmas simmer pot:

  1. Add cranberries, star anise, cloves, orange slices, and cinnamon sticks to a pot with about 2 cups of water.
  2. Simmer the pot of water with the potpourri on low heat and enjoy the delicious smells of Christmas wafting through the house! If the water starts to evaporate after a time, simply add some additional water to your pot.

How to Gift

If you’d like to give the Christmas potpourri recipe ingredients as a gift, follow these simple steps:

  1. Slice the oranges, leaving the orange peel on. Dehydrate the oranges in a dehydrator until completely dry, or make dried orange slices in the oven.
  2. Add around 10 cranberries, 3 star anise, 1 tablespoon of whole cloves, 2 dried orange slices, and 2-3 cinnamon sticks into your jar. 
  3. Put the lid on and decorate with jute or twine with a note for how to use (To Use: Add to a pot along with 2 cups of water. Simmer on low to enjoy the smell of Christmas!).

  • 1 cup Fresh Cranberries
  • 6 Star Anise whole
  • 2 tablespoons Cloves whole
  • 1 Orange fresh or dried for gifting
