I’ve also included three simple recipes for using your chai spice mix so you can make your own delicious drinks!

Why You’ll Love This Chai Spice Mix

Few things can warm you up on a cold day better than a hot chai-infused drink! Whether it’s a hot chai latte or a chai tea latte, a warm drink with warm aromatic spices will do wonders to take the chill off from the inside out. I’m also a big fan of this pumpkin spice latte recipe, this easy healthy hot cocoa, and this homemade cooked eggnog. These are all great choices during the colder time of year.

Some of the best ground spices to add that warming touch are ginger, cinnamon and cardamom. And those just happen to be the stars of this chai spice blend!

Adding some of this chai spice mix recipe to a pan of hot milk makes the best hot chai latte.

And mix this blend of spices into some freshly brewed black tea for a delicious hot chai spiced tea. It’s so much better (and less expensive) than the prepackaged chai tea you’ll get from the grocery store!

I previously shared a Christmas spice mix, which has some of the same favorite spices as this mix.

Chai spice can also be added to baked goods, oatmeal, yogurt, or spice rubs.

So reach into your spice cabinet and quickly whip up your own blend using this chai spice recipe. This homemade chai mix is a great one to add to your pantry staples.

  • Ground Cinnamon: I just love the smell and taste of cinnamon. It’s a must-have in any spice rack! This is my favorite type of cinnamon

  • Ground Cardamom: Cardamom adds a somewhat floral and citrusy warmth to your chai spice mixture.
  • Ground Pepper: Everyone knows black pepper as a common spice but it’s also a wonderful addition to a warming drink.
  • Ground NutmegNutmeg is another warm spice that’s similar to clove but also has a touch of sweetness.
  • Ground Allspice: The next spice in this mix is allspice, which is a great complement to cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  • Ground Cloves: Cloves have a unique flavor that’s both spicy and sweet at the same time.

How long can I store Chai Spice Mix?

Chai Spice Blend will store in a cool dark place, in an airtight jar or container for up to a year.

What is Chai Spice made of?

Chai spice mix is a combination of cinnamon, allspice, cloves, cardamom, pepper, ginger, and nutmeg. These are the main spices but there are other spices such as star anise that can be included.

You can adjust the amount of each spice up or down depending on your personal preference.

You can also use whole spices for a more zesty, robust chai flavor.

How much Chai Spice Mix should I use?

That just depends on your taste! For one cup (8 ounces) of drink, I would start out with one and a half teaspoons, and then adjust as needed.

Do I need to use sweetener with this chai spice mix recipe?

You don’t have to add sweetener but I think a little honey or maple syrup adds to the flavor.

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a bowl and whisk until fully combined.

Notes

  • If you prefer one spice over another, you can adjust the amounts to match your preferences.
  • If you make the drink recipes, be sure to adjust the amount of spice mix and sweetener to suit your tastes.
  • This tastes better the longer the spices sit in the liquid. The flavors truly shine their best if you blend or heat them over a stove when preparing.
  • You can use one of those little handheld milk frothers in place of a blender as well, although I still find that the blender is still a bit better at it.
  • You can make this recipe from whole spices and get an even more robust flavor.
