25 Inspirational and Encouraging Bible Verses for Women

I love reading God’s word! Although I’ve been a Christian for many years, every time I open the Bible, there’s always something new and fresh to see and understand.

We should seek to read the Bible on a daily basis for spiritual strength and faithful instruction. But it can be tempting to only open its pages when we’re discouraged or facing difficult times.

The Bible is God’s love letter to humanity! God reveals Himself, His character, and His will for our lives through the wonderful pages of this book.

I’ve divided up the Bible quotes below into five sections. Each section contains beautiful Bible verses focused on a specific topic or theme.

I hope this will help you to quickly find the verse you’re looking for, and to inspire you to dig even deeper into God’s word!

Below each verse I’ve included a short commentary explaining what the verse means to me. There are so many depths to plumb in the riches of the written word!

May each verse encourage you to grow as a woman of God, and abound in the work of the Lord through the power of the Holy Spirit!

Inspirational Bible Verses for Women About God’s Love

God and His perfect love are the central themes of the Bible. In its pages we learn how much God loves us and what He has done (and will do) to show us His unfailing love.

Psalm 90:17

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands!

What this means to me: We are called to use our own hands to serve God and others. When done from a right spirit, the Lord will bless our efforts.

Isaiah 41:10

fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

What this means to me: We all face scary things that can cause us to fear and doubt God’s goodness. But the Lord promises to be with us and keep us close even when we’re weak and afraid.

Matthew 7:11

If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

What this means to me: God delights to bless His children with good gifts! In light of God’s infinite love and kindness, our goodness and generosity pale in comparison.

John 15:12-13

This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

What this means to me: The love of God shown in the Lord Jesus Christ is so powerful! As we experience and grow in His love for us, we become willing to sacrificially serve others.

Titus 2:11

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people

Titus 2:11

What this means to me: God’s offer of salvation is available to everyone everywhere. God showed His amazing love by sending His Son to die for the sins of the whole world.

Inspirational Bible Verses for Women About a Woman’s Beauty

The world places so much emphasis on physical beauty and attractiveness. It can be easy to get caught up in this non-eternal focus. God’s word tells us to seek to cultivate an inner beauty that never fades and only grows deeper and purer.

2 Corinthians 4:16

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.

2 Corinthians 4:16

What this means to me: As we age and the vibrancy of youth starts to fade, it’s easy to feel discouraged. But even though our physical appearance may not be all we would like for it to be, drawing closer to the Lord will strengthen our inner person.

Proverbs 16:31

Gray hair is a crown of glory;
    it is gained in a righteous life.

What this means to me: The Bible encourages us to respect our elders, including older women. Those who have lived a long life of service to God are highly blessed.

1 Timothy 2:9-10

… women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.

What this means to me: We should not try to draw attention to ourselves by the way we look. Instead, our goal should be living in a way that pleases the Lord and blesses others.

1 Peter 3:3-4

Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear—but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.

What this means to me: This verse doesn’t mean we shouldn’t think at all about how we look. Instead, our focus shouldn’t primarily be on our outward appearance, which tends to fade as we age. It’s much more important to be beautiful (imperishable beauty) on the inside.

Inspirational Bible Verses for Women About Thankfulness

Being thankful for Who God is, what He has done, and all He has given us is so important! Let these encouraging scriptures speak to you and cultivate a heart of gratitude!

1 Chronicles 16:34

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    for his steadfast love endures forever!

1 Chronicles 16:34

What this means to me: Coming to see and understand God’s goodness and love leads us to overflow with thanksgiving.

Philippians 4:6

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

What this means to me: The remedy to anxiety and fear of the future is turning to the Lord. As we pour out hearts out to Him with thanksgiving, we can know that He hears us when we pray according to His perfect will.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

What this means to me: It’s easy to give thanks when times are good, but God calls us to thank Him even when times are hard. Knowing He is sovereign and works all things for our good helps us refocus and keep our eyes firmly on Him.

James 1:17

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

What this means to me: Everything we have in our lives is a gift from the Lord. Every breath, every mercy, and even the trials can be viewed as gifts from God to make us more like Him.

Inspirational Bible Verses for Women About a Woman’s Roles

In God’s beautiful plan, He made people as male and female. Scripture instructs us that both sexes are created in the image of God and equal in terms of worth and value.

We also learn in the Bible that God has different roles for men and women in terms of leadership at home and in the church.

Let’s take a look at what God has to say about a woman’s roles, and how to best fulfill them.

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

What this means to me: Both men and women are created in God’s image. This means every woman has profound worth and value. We should treat every woman with dignity and respect as an image-bearer of God.

Genesis 1:28

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

What this means to me: When God created Adam and Eve, He gave them a mandate to have children and exercise responsible stewardship of the world.

Genesis 2:18

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

Genesis 2:18

What this means to me: God created Eve to be a helper for Adam. A wife’s primary role is to support and assist her husband.

Genesis 2:22-25

 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said,

This at last is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

What this means to me: In creating Eve out of Adam’s body and bringing her under Adam’s love and protection, God powerfully showed the profound beauty, closeness and intimacy of the husband-wife relationship.

Proverbs 31:10-12

An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life.

Proverbs 31:10

What this means to me: A godly wife seeks to love and serve her husband in practical ways that assist him. Her husband views her as having great worth as she seeks to bless him by speaking and acting in a way that blesses him.

Proverbs 31:14-16

She is like the merchant ships;
she brings her food from afar.
She rises while it is yet night
and provides food for her household
and portions for her maidens.
She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.

What this means to me: A wife and mother has many roles, one of which is providing food for her household. This doesn’t mean all married women have to fulfill all of the roles mentioned in this passage. But over time, most wives will do at least some of these things.

Ephesians 2:3-5

Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

What this means to me: In God’s plan, more mature women should disciple and nurture younger women. This includes encouragement and teaching practical ways to care for their families.

Ephesians 5:33

.. let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Ephesians 5:33

What this means to me: A wife can be tempted to speak or act in a way that shows disrespect to her husband, particularly if her husband is acting in a way that doesn’t seem worthy of respect. Yet God still tells us to show respect, if nothing else at least respecting the position of spiritual authority God has placed in our life.

1 Peter 3:1-2

Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct.

What this means to me: Being “subject” to our husbands doesn’t mean we are inferior or slaves. This is a voluntary submission where we willingly yield to our husband’s leadership and role as the head of our family. This does not, however, mean that we should submit if we are asked to sin. And if you find yourself in a dangerous situation or relationship, you should get help and get to safety immediately.

Inspirational Bible Verses for Women About Wisdom

Biblical wisdom is the ability and knowledge of discerning good from evil and right from wrong. A wise woman does what is good and right according to God’s standards.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

Proverbs 3:5

What this means to me: This passage is my life verse! So many times I’ve fallen back on this when faced with trials or uncertainty. God wants us to lean fully into Him and not rely or trust in our own finite minds.

Proverbs 3:16-18

Long life is in her (wisdom’s) right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her;
those who hold her fast are called blessed.

What this means to me: Living life God’s way tends to bring blessings such as a long and prosperous life, and a heart filled with peace.

Ephesians 2:10

God has made us what we are, and in our union with Christ Jesus he has created us for a life of good deeds, which he has already prepared for us to do.

What this means to me: Any wisdom or goodness in us is ultimately due to the goodness of God. He calls us to walk the life path of wisdom and service He sets before us.
