Every year when strawberry season comes around, we love to head to the strawberry patch to pick strawberries. (The years when we grow our own berries are my favorite, because then we can just head out to the garden.) And then we bring all of those strawberries we picked into the kitchen to make all the strawberry treats.

Our favorites are homemade strawberry jam and homemade strawberry shortcakes. These easy homemade pastries are another favorite way to use in-season strawberries. Strawberry danishes are perfect for a special breakfast or dessert!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Easy to Make: Thanks to the pre-made puff pastry, this is an easy recipe to make. If you keep puff pastry in the freezer, you’ll always be able to whip up a quick dessert like this.
  • Beautiful: These strawberry cream cheese danishes are just so lovely and special-looking! That’s what makes them so great for get-togethers and parties. They look like you spent more time than you actually did, and they really add so much to a dessert table or brunch spread.
  • Delicious: These delicious treats taste as good as they look! The flaky puff pastry dough combined with sweet strawberries and a simple vanilla glaze make these a treat the whole family will love.

Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish Tips

  • You’ll want to use frozen puff pastry for this recipe. Puff pastry can often be found near the frozen dessert aisle in your local grocery store.
  • You can substitute other fresh fruit in place of the strawberries to create new flavors of pastries.
  • The glaze makes these look and taste even more special, but feel free to omit the glaze if you prefer. You could also just sprinkle with a dusting of powdered sugar without the glaze, and they would still be delicious.

Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish Ingredients

Find the full list of ingredients, amounts, and instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Strawberries: This recipe calls for 4 cups of fresh strawberries.
  • Puff Pastry: This recipe calls for 2 frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed. Store-bought puff pastry makes these so simple and quick!
  • Cream Cheese: You’ll need a block of cream cheese at room temperature. The softened cream cheese will be easier to mix with the other ingredients. I would recommend using full-fat cream cheese.
  • Sugar: This recipe uses both granulated sugar and powdered sugar. The powdered sugar will be used for the glaze.
  • Egg: You’ll need a large egg for an egg wash.
  • Vanilla Extract: You can use either store-bought vanilla, or you can make your own homemade vanilla extract.
  • Milk: A couple of tablespoons of milk are needed for the glaze.

4. Gently unfold the thawed puff pastry, and cut into 6 even squares. You should have 12 total, after you use both sheets of puff pastry.

5. Score the dough around the edges, about 1/4 inch away from the border and place about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese filling in the inside. Smooth it out and place strawberries on top of the cream cheese mixture.

6. Lightly beat the egg with a splash of water and brush around the border of the puff pastry for an egg wash. Sprinkle the whole pastry with sugar, if desired.

7. Place the prepared puff pastries in the freezer for 20 minutes. (You do not want to skip this step! It makes the crust puff up so nicely!)

8. Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-22 minutes until the crust is golden brown and puffy.

9. While the danishes are baking, combine powdered sugar, vanilla and milk. You can drizzle this over the danishes for a nice glaze.

10. Transfer to a cooling rack and top with glaze, and powdered sugar if desired. Enjoy!

How to Store

These are best eaten the same day they are made. Any leftovers can be placed in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. When ready to eat, pop them in the oven or toaster oven until warm.

I haven’t tried freezing these, so I’m not sure how well they would freeze.
