These cookies are easy to make and are perfect for sharing at a party, a potluck, or any time you want a delicious homemade treat!
Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies Ingredients
- 1 cup butter, softened (2 sticks)
- 1 ½ cups brown sugar (or organic cane sugar)
- ½ teaspoon salt (This is my favorite unrefined salt.)
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (Learn how to make your own vanilla here!)
- 2 large eggs
- 2 ¼ cups whole wheat flour (we use whole wheat pastry flour, but you can also use regular whole wheat flour also). For my favorite bulk source of wheat berries and flour, see here. You can also make your own flour at home.
- 1 cup chocolate chips or carob chips
Instructions
1. Place the softened butter in a large bowl.
2. Add the sugar, and cream it together with the butter until it is smooth and fluffy.
3. Stir in the salt, baking soda, and vanilla.
4. Add the eggs.
5. Beat the mixture until the eggs are well incorporated and the batter is fluffy, shiny and satiny.
6. Now stir in the whole wheat pastry flour.
7. When the batter is smooth and thick, add the chocolate chips. Stir until the cips are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
8. Drop the dough by tablespoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
9. Bake at 350° for about 12 minutes.
10. Allow to cool on the pan for a minute or two before removing them from the cookie sheet with a spatula. This recipe makes about 3 dozen cookies.
I hope you enjoy these! Do you have a favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe in your family?
