Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix (Large Batch)
This homemade ranch dressing mix recipe makes a large batch. You can mix this up in bulk and you’ll always have ranch dressing mix on hand! Use this for ranch seasoning or for making dip and dressing.

If you love ranch dressing but don’t love all the additives and chemicals that may be lurking in store brands, try making your own!
Our family goes through so much ranch dressing that I like to keep this bulk ranch dressing mix on hand and ready to use.
If you enjoy making your own homemade spice mixes, give these a try:
All of the ingredients are ones we keep as pantry staples, and we buy them in bulk from Azure Standard, so we have larger quantities of them available.
How to Make Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix
Here’s how to make your own ranch dressing mix—it’s super easy.
- Mix up the spices (dried dill weed, dried parsley, dried onion flakes, onion powder, garlic powder, dried chives, salt, and pepper).
- Put the spice mix in a pint jar for storage.
- Add a label, and you’re done!

How to Use Bulk Ranch Dressing Mix
When you’re ready to use the mix to make a batch of ranch dressing or dip, just add mayonnaise, sour cream, and milk to the ranch dressing mix, and chill.
- Whisk together 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1/2 cup sour cream, and 1/2 cup milk (or buttermilk).
- Add 3 teaspoons of white vinegar or lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of the ranch dressing mix and whisk until blended smoothly together.
- Store in a jar with a lid (or other lidded container) in the fridge for up to a week.

This recipe makes a fairly thick dressing, so it works really well as-written for a ranch dip. We like to mix up this dip and serve it with sliced vegetables.
Sliced cucumbers, carrot sticks, bell pepper slices, radishes—there are so many possibilities for using this dip!
If you want your ranch dressing to be a bit thinner, add a bit more milk until the consistency is the way you’d like it.
The thinner dressing works well over a lettuce salad. However, we often leave it thick and serve it on our salads just the way it is (we use a spoon so serve it when it’s thicker).

Supplies Needed for This Recipe
Here are the supplies you’ll need:
- Small mixing bowl
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Mixing spoon
- Jar for storage (I used a pint jar)
- Label (optional—I use these)

Ingredients
- Dried dill weed
- Dried parsley
- Onion flakes
- Onion powder
- Garlic powder
- Dried chives
- Salt (I like this mineral salt)
- Black pepper

I mixed this up in a bowl to showcase all the beautiful herbs and spices, but you can also just measure everything directly into a jar. (I usually use a bowl and spoon, just to make sure everything is fully mixed.)
Pour each spice into the jar, and shake! No spoon is even required when mixing up this easy recipe!
Note: if you want the seasonings to be more finely ground, you can also put the mixture in a food processor, pulsing until the spices are ground finer.
