Every year, my kids and I love to make dipped pretzels for the holidays. We love making these for Christmas as well as Valentine’s Day.

My kids always look forward to Valentine’s Day because we try to make it a special time of sharing how much we love each other. It’s a great time to encourage and bless family and friends. In addition to being a romantic holiday, I think it’s great for families (and there are so many fun things to do as a family on Valentine’s Day).

We usually make or buy Valentine’s cards for each other and fill them with encouraging words and thoughts. When our kids were little, we made these Valentines chair pockets, and my kids loved making cards and “love notes” to secretly stash in the pockets. Now that they’re older, they still look forward to receiving a card and some candy and enjoying a special Valentine’s Day dinner that night.

  • Pretzels: Mini twist pretzels are the type to use. I love that they’re shaped like a heart!
  • Pink Candy Melts: You’ll use three different candy melts. The first one is pink melts.
  • Red Candy Melts: You also need red candy melts.
  • White Candy Melts: The last candy melts you need are white ones.
  • Sprinkles: You can use whatever kind of sprinkles or sanding sugar you prefer. I think these heart sprinkles and this sanding sugar would look great.

How to Make Valentine’s Day Pretzels

  • Put one color of candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave them in increments of 20 seconds. Stir in between. Remove once fully melted. You can also heat the candy melts in a small saucepan on the stovetop.
  • Carefully dip each pretzel in the melted candy (it will be hot) and then decorate with your favorite sprinkles.
  • Repeat these steps for the other colors of candy melt.
  • Put the dipped pretzels in the fridge for about 30 minutes, or until the candy has fully hardened.

How to Store

These dipped Valentine’s pretzels will last for several days. I would store them in a sealed airtight container to keep them fresh. This will also protect them better than a plastic storage bag.
