Jenny’s Surprise Summer~Kittens for Keeps {Before Five in a Row}

I’ve gotten a bit behind on sharing our Before Five in a Row studies.  Here’s one we completed in August, for Jenny’s Surprise Summer.

Jenny’s Surprise Summer

The Jenny’s Surprise Summer book is hard to find, so we substituted Kittens for Keeps, which is essentially the same book, so it works out well as a substitute.
Just as we were starting this book, an adorable little kitten showed up at our house and decided to stay!
She was very small and thin when she came, but now she’s plump and healthy-looking.
We’ve had so much fun with her.  The kids named her Mittens, since she looks like she’s wearing little mittens.
Once again, we enjoyed using the lapbook pages from HomeschoolShare:
This was a fun science experiment that my little guy really enjoyed.  He had to make a guess about which items might sink and which ones might float.
I was surprised that he made correct guesses on most of them!

Summer Sensory Bin

For our sensory bin to go with this study, I just used the one I had made for another study (Yellow Ball), with the sand and shells.  I just added this cat figurine.  He thought this was cute at first, but then he took out the cat and shells and just drove his trucks through the sand most of the time!
The sand was a sensory experience that he really enjoyed, and he played with this bin for quite a few weeks. He loved to just run his fingers through the sand, he loved pouring it into different containers, and putting it in his dump trucks.  And just driving cars through it kept him busy for days.

Sand Pudding Recipe

For a fun food memory, we made this very cute Sand Pudding recipe.
Everyone thought this was a very clever recipe, as the ground up cookies really do resemble sand!
And it was fun to serve it in a [clean & new!] sand pail:
This was a really sweet book to read together, and we made lots of happy memories with it, especially since we had our own kitten show up at the same time!
